Elephant Butte Lake Elephant Butte Lake - 45 miles long - is the largest in New Mexico and the State's premiere location for fishing, swimming, and boating. Jet skiing, water skiing, and para sailing are very popular. Sail boat regattas and dragboat races occur regularly.
